Butcher vacancy

Tablehurst Farm is looking for a butcher with at least three years’ experience. This is an exceptional opportunity to join an award-winning team in a traditional environment preparing organic meat of the highest quality, all of which is produced here on the farm.

This is a full-time vacancy (8.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday). Occasional Saturday work will be required to cover colleague’s holidays. The full-time salary will be in the range £21,000 to £23,000 depending on experience. We will consider applications for a part-time position, but preference will be given to full-time candidates. Our ideal candidate will be looking to become a long-term member of the team.

Our butchery was established 25 years ago and has been selling farm-reared meat to the local community ever since. Earlier this month, we were delighted to be awarded “Sussex Butcher of the Year” in the Sussex Food and Drink Awards. The butchery team is normally three to four people in total and typically processes one beef animal, five lambs, five pigs and 200 chickens every week. We cure our own bacon and make a wide range of butcher’s sausages.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of butchery work. This includes breaking down carcasses, preparing individual cuts for the counter, curing bacon, making sausages, gutting, trussing and portioning chicken, cleaning, packing meat for delivery, and serving customers in the farm shop.

Tablehurst Farm is a community-owned social enterprise. This gives it a unique quality. As a customer-facing member of staff, you will be an ambassador for the whole farm enterprise. We expect all our staff to learn about our farming practices and in particular about how we care for, feed and rear our animals. You would be given all the necessary training to achieve this.
