Cafe Assistant/Cook Vacancy
Tablehurst Farm operates a farm shop and café in the heart of the farm. The café is open six days a week all year and seven days a week from March to October. Although the café itself is small, our large café garden and our regular community events mean that we can get extremely busy at times.
The café is run by a café manager and a small permanent team, with additional seasonal workers in the spring and summer. The post we are seeking to fill is to be the senior permanent café assistant, working alongside the manager.
The ideal candidate for this role will have worked in the food industry, ideally as a cook. The successful candidate will contribute to menu development, with a strong focus on seasonal farm produce, cook and bake in the café, and support the café manager in all other aspects of the operation including serving customers and working on the barbecue on summer weekends. We serve homemade cakes, hot breakfasts, soups, sandwiches, salads, pasties and casseroles, plus the usual range of hot drinks and freshly prepared fruit and vegetable juices.
We have an open kitchen, so someone who is well presented and outgoing with a positive, can-do attitude is a must.
Tablehurst is a community-owned, not-for-profit social enterprise and a biodynamic and organic farm. These characteristics are extremely important to us, and we are seeking candidates to join our permanent team who are keen to learn about the farm and then share their knowledge with our customers.
You should hold a current food safety certificate and have an excellent understanding of allergens.
Working hours will be five days a week from 8.30am to 5.00pm with an hour for lunch and it is essential that you are available on Saturdays all year and Sundays in the spring/summer season. Extra hours will sometimes be available to cover team holidays and special events.
This is a permanent position with the usual holiday entitlements, company pension & a share of the café tips. Our full-time working hours at Tablehurst are 42.5 hours per week, so this position (37.5 hours per week) is deemed to be 88% of full time. Salary between £18,000 and £19,000 dependent on experience (full time equivalent £20,400 to £21,500).
To apply, please send your CV with a covering letter explaining why you think you are the right person for this vacancy to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will close on Friday 28th February, but we may make an appointment before that date if the right candidate applies.
