About the event

Join local botanist and friend of the farm Brad Scott for this farm walk exploring a range of different habitats around Tablehurst. Brad will guide you around the fields and hedgerows of Tablehurst and illustrate the variety of wild plants that are a vital part of the farm's ecology. In an age of industrial agriculture, farms such as Tablehurst are great sites of biological diversity and have a noticeably richer array of species than adjacent land. You will be introduced to many common species of plant as well as plants that are now under threat. The route will take in the meadow at Pixton where the wildflowers will be at their peak at this time of year. The walk will be of interest to anyone wanting to learn some basic botany and gain some insights into the local landscape.

Note that we have modified the format of the event. It will now run from 10:30 until 1 (rather than 2) and will no longer be followed by a lunch. Our café garden will be open as usual following the walk and will be serving a selection of food. The ticket price has been dropped to £10 accordingly.

Brad Scott is a historian of botany, and is one of the county recorders for bryophytes (mosses and liverworts). He was part of the editorial team that produced The Flora of Sussex (2018).
