About us
Tablehurst is a 500-acre mixed biodynamic/organic farm in Forest Row, East Sussex, with mob grazing Sussex horned cattle, Jersey dairy herd, arable, pasture, ponds, woodland, and footpaths on Wealden AONB. It includes a vegetable/fruit garden, polytunnels, farm buildings, bakery, pie kitchen, farm shop, café, and farmer accommodation. The farm produce, beef, lamb, pork, poultry, local wild venison, raw dairy, pastries, fruit and vegetables, is mainly sold through the on-site farm shop.
We have consistently won prestigious awards, the latest ones being BBC Food and Farming Award for Food Producer of the Year 2022, and Sussex Food and Drinks Awards 2021 Sussex Butcher of the Year. Our Pie Kitchen won a Soil Association food award for our delicious Steak and Kidney Pie, made with our own produce.
Our farm is committed to biodynamics as its core farming philosophy, and to community engagement as a central pillar of our work.
Seasonal BBQ Chef

From start of May to the end of September/early October (depending on weather), we run a popular weekly Saturday BBQ in our cafe garden which serves our farm-reared meat (usually burgers) plus a vegetarian option cooked on our wood-fired bbq. We are currently hiring a bbq chef to oversee this weekly operation.
The successful candidate will:

Set up the bbq, including cutting the firewood from logs to the right size, and lighting the bbq.

Set up the al fresco counter so the card reader, daily menu, plates/cutlery, side salads and condiments are ready in time for orders.

Taking food and drinks orders from customers (although there will be another team member carrying out this task).

Cooking the burgers according to orders received, and assembling onto plates with buns and salad.

Cleaning bbq and workspace at the end of the day. Ensure all rubbish are in the correct bins.
Desired Experience:
-
Catering/cooking experience preferably in grilling meat.

Proven experience working independently.

Food hygiene level 2 certificate.
Schedule:

Part time, weekly Saturday 9am-5pm (with 30 min unpaid break)

Catering Assistant

As well as produce meat and grow vegetables which we sell in our farm shop, the farm runs an award-winning pie kitchen and a popular cafe onsite.
We are seeking a part-time Catering Assistant who is open to supporting both the pie kitchen and the cafe, in accordance with the needs of each enterprise.
​
The ideal candidate will:

Prepare ingredients for making pies, such as washing and chopping vegetables, mixing eggs, cutting pastry;
-
Assisting the cooking of ingredients as per the manager's instructions and recipes;
-
Delivering products to the farm shop and cafe;
-
Preparing a variety of salads for the cafe;
-
Preparing high quality coffees using our coffee machine and making teas;
-
Serving food and drinks to customers in the cafe when needed, including the use of the till;
-
Keep a high level of cleanliness and hygiene, both personally and in the work spaces;
-
Demonstrate exceptional timekeeping and reliability;
-
Comply with food handling and hygiene standards; and
-
Have a genuine interest in how we farm.
Candidates with food preparation and/or barista experience will be preferred, particularly those who hold a Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate.
The successful candidate must be willing to work and prepare food with an adult from our care home, who has learning disabilities, once or twice a week.
Job Type: Part Time
Schedule: Part-time; 5 hours per day Tuesday to Thursday; 9am-2pm.
