About the event
Tablehurst's Head Gardener, Stephen Mills, and seasoned seed-saver Peter Brinch will co-host this workshop on the theory and practice of seed saving. The art of seed saving is more important to our horticultural future than ever before, to retain ancient skills and traditions, to ensure seed diversity and to promote food security and sovereignty.
In the first half of the workshop, Peter will cover the history of where our seeds come from, explain the differences between open-pollinated and corporate seed varieties, and talk about how to save seed. Stephen will then move on to a practical demonstration of sowing and how to select biennial plant chicory for seed saving.
Refreshments including tea, coffee and cake will be provided.
If the workshop is well received, Peter and Stephen plan to host a follow-up session later in the year on harvesting seed.
For more information on Peter and his work, see the website of his Open Pollinated Seeds initiative.
