About the event

Tablehurst's Head Gardener, Stephen Mills, and seasoned seed-saver Peter Brinch will co-host this workshop on the theory and practice of seed saving. Peter will begin by presenting on the following topics:

1, Identifying harvest time for your seeds

2, methods of harvesting and techniques

3, grading and cleaning

4, short and long term storage

5, reminder on breaking seed dormancy before planting and when it is better to take cuttings etc instead of seed.

6, then a short conversation on chicory (which we have saved the seeds for this year) - why it was domesticated for food and as a medicinal plant

There will be refreshments after the talk, then we will work with seeds saved this year, chicory, lettuce, tomato and valerian seeds, to separate, clean and grade. Your clean seeds can then be taken home!

For more information on Peter and his work, see the website of his Open Pollinated Seeds initiative.
